Mi Roots

As a child I was greatly influenced my Mom's music collection of Disco, Soul and Rock LP's & 8-Tracks. I saved my allowance money to buy 45s and LPs, then cassette tapes and CDs. By the time I was on my own I was back to vinyl records again. It was the sound quality of the robust signal vinyl records provide that brought me back to the format I originally purchased in my youth. But it was the electronic music revolution of the mid-90's that turned me on to music as a career choice. After College I moved to Boston where I worked as an intern in Marketing & Project Management for Rykodisc (which at that time was the largest independent record label in the USA) and Alligator Records (an independent blues label out based out of Chicago). At Rykodisc I was fortunate enough to work on projects with artists as diverse as Yoko Ono, The Last Poets, Medeski Martin & Wood and Morphine. In 1995 I moved back to Atlanta in hopes of finding another label gig, but due to label consolidation in the early 90's it was impossible. I spent the next two years working desk jobs while collecting music and sound equipment.

In Tha Streets

In 1997 I purchased my first pair of direct drive turntables and a mixer. After a year of practicing up and then moving down to Orlando, FL in 1998 to attend Full Sail, I began playing out at various nightclubs in O-Town for one off deals at clubs like Monaco, Sapphire Supper Club, Cairo and The Blue Room. Upon finishing my Audio Engineering degree I returned to Atlanta to work at Doppler Studios & Todd-AO Atlanta (now Riot Atlanta Studios). I hit the ground running back in Atlanta and eventually had several monthly and weekly club events at Nomenclature Museum, Crescent Room, Halo Lounge, Eastside Lounge, Late Nite Session After-hours as well as Blue Milk Magazine Art Parties and Shameless Productions events. By 2003, I was playing around the southeast and threw a series of successful events with Jahson the 45 Revolver in Chattanooga, TN called "Quality". Over time I have worked with and opened for a variety of artists as diverse as Grandmaster Flash, Ursula 1000, Sleazy Mc Queen, Nicola Conta, Thunderball, Ramadanman, Moldy, Mayhem, Boozoo Bajou, Boo Williams, Kai Alce, Paul Rogers, Mykal Rose, Collie Buddz, The Aggrolites, Dubconscious and The Wailers.

Mi Sound

My sound has developed and evolved over time, but has always stay focused on the best sounding media that a DJ can play out in a club = VINYL. To narrow what I play down to one genre would be impossible at this point. I’m an avid vinyl collector of Funk, Soul, Jazz, Disco, Nudisco, Deep House, smoked out Hip-Hop grooves, funky midtempo Break-Beat gems, Reggae and Caribbean inspired genres. And I play a variety of these styles at various clubs and events in Atlanta, around the Southeast as well as further destinations such as San Francisco & Hawaii.

In 2011, I focused a great deal of energy into Smokecloud records, an all vinyl record label focusing on Nudisco, Dub and Hip-Hop instrumentals. While maintaining several very different DJ residences, from Funky First Friday’s at Sauced which is a Funk, Soul and Disco night to Reggae Vault Classics at the Sound Table to a roving Nudisco party simply titled DISCO that has had events at both the Sound Table & Halo Lounge. The future sees more vinyl releases on Smokecloud by me and other artists around the world as well as a European tour.
